Hello Spring

We took a little break from hosting gatherings to focus on our newest little baby who made his way here in January. It has been really good for our family to slow things down and love on our little sweetie. We're finally getting back into our rhythm and feeling ready to take on Workroom again!

I have really loved putting these events together and making such sweet friendships with other women. It's been a dream of mine come true. During the months I stepped away I had lots of time to think about what I wanted from this space and community that we're hoping to build. To really focus on the purpose behind it all. The big WHY.

Workroom is about friendship. It's about making time to take care of ourselves as women. To learn new things. To meet new people and pursue creativity. So from here on out we're taking a fresh approach. When you purchase a ticket to a Workroom gathering you'll ONLY be paying for the cost of the event. Thats it.

Our purpose isn't to make a profit. It's to build a community for women. Removing that business mindset and pressure has opened up so many beautiful opportunities and directions to take Workroom. I won't make a penny off of these gatherings... and to be honest I don't want to. This place all came about from my own desire to make new friendships and keep creativity alive in my life as a woman, a wife, and a mother. And that feels like more than enough in return.

Our first gathering of the year will be held on April 22nd in Heber City, Utah. We will be hosting the event in our home, something I'm really excited about! We're going to be making a spring cleaning supply kit with all natural solutions. My sister Rachel is a holistic heath coach and she'll be teaching!!

Tickets will be available on Mon the 10th. We'll have 12 seats open for grabs! Hope to see you there!!

Watercolor Painting Class

We held our watercolor painting class a few weeks ago and it was amazing! Despite the bad weather forcing us indoors, it turned out to be such a lovely class. We learned a really neat watercolor layering technique from Jana and enjoyed our lunch from Redmond Farms picnic style. We had such a good time that this class just might be a repeat in the future ;)

Floral Arranging Class

We held our first collaborative event for Workroom on September 10th! Our 15 attendees learned the basics of flower arranging from Jessica St Thomas, owner of St Thomas Floral. The morning was full of creative energy and we couldn't have asked for better start to our gatherings!

Jana Winters Parkin

Jana Winters Parkin teaches watercolor painting at Utah Valley University, and is a popular workshop instructor statewide.

Jana grew up playing in her father’s studio. When she expressed an interest, he patiently guided her through her first few paintings. Holding the brush together, they dipped it in water and paint, then watched in awe as it dispersed a beautiful blend of color across a pristine sheet of textured paper. This early childhood experience taught her a love of watercolor that has lasted throughout her life.

Growing up, Jana often accompanied her father as he taught both painting and creativity workshops nationwide, from California and Hawaii to Florida, and even Europe. This early exposure to people and places, visual expression and creative thinking, has been invaluable.

In college, she spent summers away, studying first at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, then Cambridge University in England, and taking watercolor workshops in Monterey, California. She earned a BFA in Art from the University of Utah in 1987.   In 2001 she began to devote most of her creative time and energy to painting. Her watercolors have become both a source and an expression of pure joy.

Jana’s work carries the warmth and energy of Southern California, and the love of natural surroundings of her native Utah — captured in vibrant color and exuberant washes. She captures the essence and spirit of both landscapes and figures with this characteristic joie de vivre. Her inspiration is found not only in her travels, but in the beauty, light and color of the everyday.  Whether jubilant or serene, each painting is a celebration of life, energy and creation.

We are so thrilled to have Jana teach our watercoloring class on Sept 24th!! Check out her website www.janaparkin.com to see more of her beautiful work!

Jessica St Thomas

Jessica St. Thomas has been flowering since her teenage years, where she worked at various floral shops during high school and college.  She graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's in Interior Design, and a Minor in Art.  Her studying ranged from interiors to architectural design and art history.  This has become a significant influence in the way that she designs, as she often gravitates to blooms with heavy texture and enjoys the challenge of creating unique color palettes.  For the past 10 years she has worked closely with many highly respected designers and florists to further her knowledge + design experience.

She is married to a wonderful and extremely patient husband who supports all of her seemingly endless adventures.  They've been blessed with three little girls who spend their days side by side with her.

Her work has been featured on various wedding sites such as:  Magnolia Rouge, Green Wedding Shoes, Snippet & Ink, Inspired By This, Grey Likes Baby, and Utah Bride Blog.  She has also been published in Utah Style & Design Magazine, and Salt Lake/ Park City Bride & Groom Magazine.

We are so thrilled to have Jess as our first instructor for Workroom!! Be sure to head over to her website... I dare you to not get lost for hours in her beautiful work!

Hello! Welcome to Workroom.

We're so happy you found us and hope you'll stay for a while to see all the pretty things we have in store. This is a place for you to connect and get creative with other like-minded women.

Think of it like a ladies night out combined with the dreamiest classes you've ever taken. All instruction will be given by women in our own community. Women who own small businesses or have become creative experts in their field of choice.

Our goal is to provide women with a platform to teach and share their knowledge. In return you and I have the opportunity to learn knew skills + find creative hobbies. Most of all, we hope you'll make lasting friendships with the women you'll meet at our events.

Thank you so much for being here. Stick around for more details on our first event coming up this September!! We cannot wait to share all the details...
